Comments Probably beats Germany's attempt at quality even with the lower bitrate but fails miserably in the extras department. Although it should get some credit for actually playing the movie at the correct speed. It's disappointing that contrary to the box's "16:9" designation this DVD was not anamorphic, aka 16:9 enhanced (so much for wishful thinking). It also suffers from a common problem with PAL discs, it runs too fast. Instead of duplicating a frame every second to go from film (24fps) to PAL (25fps) they just run it fast. The sound is not pitch corrected so everything sounds a little off too. It's also interesting to note that the DVD is encoded interlaced when the actual picture is defintely progressive. This one gets my vote for "coolest DVD." It's got a Behind the Scenes extra that I haven't seen anywhere else. It comes with a jewel case booklet with pictures and some text and even a jewel case insert. Maybe they originally intended to release it in a jewel case, or maybe they were just being generous. Plus, the art is probably the best of the bunch. But... WRONG SPEED AGAIN. This is a pretty nice anamorphic transfer which is why it really bugs me that they decided to just run it fast like other PAL encodes. Do all these people really think it's just fine to run a movie four minutes fast? I don't. This one comes with a neat CG sequence of the Claw's hanger in the menu's intro, plus it's packed with background info including a time-line apparently ripped straight from the CIC. Too bad it's all in Japanese. Runs fast also, picture seems slightly tilted (check out the credits) Lower bitrate; image lacks detail.
